Media in our live.

1. What role does the media play in our lives?

http://kagayakikun.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/201109191933.pnghttp://www.techritual.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/facebook.jpgMedia does not only provide us entertainment such as music, video and games. It also plays a very important role in our life everyday. It provide us with the newest world wide information around the world such as U.S president Obama is trying make another move on something or in South Africa there are civil war going on right now. Media can come in many kinds of form such as TV, Phone and Computer social network such as Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo and Google. Nowadays media information has been traveling really fast from place to place. Throughout these few years media has been really helpful in our daily life such as providing us information about the economy around the world, protest in the middle east and Africa and how the world is slowly changing from time to time.

2.  Have you ever read or watched a news stroy that made you angry and want to take action?
Yes I have been angry and mad a lot of time when I'm reading news and watching TV about the world. Some of events that's happening in the world are just really cruel and I felt the excruciating pain in my heart when I saw the things that are happening around the world. For example, when we are watching the Hotel Rwanda I saw a lot of house were burned and people were slaughtered through the media. It just make me angry and I could barely control my emotion. At first, I wanted to take action in a bad way that might make the situation worst such as killing all the people in the army but after thinking for a while I told myself if I do that I'm turning to one of them. I decided if this kind of stuff ever happens again I would really be willing to take part in the action to help let the others know what's happening around the world that was hidden from us.

3. Who is accountable for the media

A lot of people are accountable to the media. Of course the people that posted the media must take responsibility to what they made because for those who are watching the media they want to know the fact and not what is not true. The media maker could not even make the issue to not a big deal or they could not exaggerate the situation too; only the fact. Also in my opinion I think the government around the world should be accountable to the media. They should consider to help each other not only to benefit them frhttp://rlv.zcache.com/god_sharing_life_card-p137616113454132711envwi_400.jpgom their economy but also they should help each other because in every country and nation there would be useful, helpful and worth learning culture to be spread and to be shared around the world. Moreover, if you help the others the world would be a better place for everybody to live in as God teaches us that we should be selfish but helped the others when they needed our help. As in Hebrew 13:16 it said do not neglect to do good and to share what you have for such sacrifice pleases to God.

Tibet desire independence from China

I've read a lot of news and article telling the world that Dalai Lama from Tibet and his people are seeking independence from China. He told us that the international investigation to China's on demonstrators in Tibet said that around hundred of people had died. In the perspective of China's government they think that they are three reasons why they claim Tibet as their own land. First the government believe Tibet's territory had left over for China in thirteenth Century when China and Tibet were still in the control of Kublai Khan Empire's control. The second reasons is that China is a very populated country and the government has a lot of society problem. Thus, China found the society can be better if they could have more land from Tibet so the government can take over Tibet and find a way to make life better for their people. Third China has a thought that Tibet needs their help in order to have a balance and to maintain their successful society to prevent Buddhism which China is against to influence Tibet culture too. However in Tibet's opinion the think that they had been not given rights in the past 40 years by China government. Second China also destroy Tibet's culture, elimination of religious freedom and their religion symbol too. Third, they think that they are given rights by global law to maintain their own government instead of letting China ruling and obeying their rule. http://www.angelfire.com/ca/pumpkingurl/index.html http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/1581875/Dalai-Lama-condemns-Chinas-cultural-genocide-of-Tibet.html

What is your duty to the world?

We had an interesting discussion about the quote, that Martin Niemöller had written after the war, during Wednesday's class. In my opinion, I think Martin Niemöller wrote this because he wanted us to know that although someone started something doesn't mean that others do not have any fault about the events. In addition, another point I think he wrote is to tell us that things people do to other people do not only affect them but also the people around them because of influence.

The second thought I have in my mind was that should the entire Germany population be responsible about what Adolf Hitler and Nazis did to the Jews and the start of WWII. After thinking about a day or two I decided that everyone in Germany should be shamed about themselves in some certain ways, by not stopping this tragedy happening. It is because if everyone steps up to the Nazi Party telling them that they are not right and they do not have the rights to kill the Jews and other races then it could be a different story and this cruel historical event would not be the ending. However, no one in the country was willing to help the Jews and themselves in this situation which cost nearly 11 million innocent life killed not including the military and put German themselves in another shameful place.

From this lesson I also learned that, this is not only talking about the Nazi party but also talking about relationship between people to people. I am going to list three simple examples how do these examples affect me in school, city ,and world. First talking about school, as we know we have to behave well to show not only the teachers that we have good attitude towards each other but also building a better atmosphere in school to have good education, environment and respect. I think I play a very important part in school towards the things I just listed as I might influence the new comers in school to act as the same way I do or friends around me that could be influenced by me.

In another perspective is on my city. In my own city I will be a good citizen because in the street you might meet some people from different country who are visiting your country. You would want to be kind and have a positive attitude in helping them when they ask for it so your city will have a good reputation in other people's point of view.

The last perspective I am going to talk about is how my action will affect my country. Of course some people will think their action would not affect their country's reputation but it's wrong because as we learned from the spirit week that the action you make do not only affect you but other people around you because they are being influenced by what people around them are doing.

Today as we watched a video from twilight zone. The video "An Occurrence at Owl Breek Bridge" written by Ambrose Blerce.

Through out the video we connected it with the stuff we learned today in class which was point of view. As the video I was watching the video I found some different point of view in the movie such as the third person omniscient, third person limited and at last the first person point of view.

From the first person point of view as we can see from the video the protagonist was been tied up with a rope around his need and he was at the edge of the wood stand and was ready to be killed. However, he was very lucky as he escaped from the death penalty and the lyrics of the song that was played in the video showed and expressed the joy. From this example we could see from his point of view that he escaped the penalty however, we could not be sure if it was only what he was thinking or was it what really happened.

The next point I'm going to mention is the the third person omniscient point of view. Through this point of view, we could find it at the last part of the video which we actually hard what the narrator was speaking about. From the sentences that the narrator referred in the story clearly told us that all video except the start and the end were only just an illusion or you could call it imagination.

The last point I'm going to say is third person limited. From this point of view the example I could find in the video was where he met his wife and there was a scene where it was repeated a lot of time and as the time slows down. However, through out this act, the character was mainly focused on the protagonist but more on his wife's mind of thinking and what she felt through out the act...

"Gift of Magi"

*Ring Ring* I picked up my phone and answered it.
“Hello who’s this?” I asked.
“Hey Ted it’s your mom, how are you these days? How’s your business going? Oh and how’s Olivia doing?” she asked.
"My business is going well I have a lot of partners coming to me signing more and more contracts with other clients and they really enjoyed having business with me. Olivia is doing totally fine and we went to hospital last week and notice that she’s pregnant and it’s a boy!” I replied.
“That’s great! I’m glad to hear that. God bless, the baby will have a great future and be a kind person!” she said.
“So what’s the matter mom? Why did you call?” I questioned.
“Oh Ted I’m just wondering if you would come by tomorrow and visit your dad, you know it’s his birthday and you haven’t visited for almost half a year.”
“*Sigh* I wish I could mom but I have to go on a business trip tomorrow. I’m going to Shanghai to meet my business partner to plan our new factory there. It’s very important for my businesses future, we need to negotiate with them to make a lower budget for the new construction.”
“Oh, that’s too bad then, guess I’m the only one that is going to celebrate his birthday this time. Tell us if you need help on the budget, and remember we are always there for you.”
“Thanks mom, I love you. Send my regards to dad and wish him a happy birthday for me.” I said.
She hung up the phone and I felt guilty in my heart as I remind myself that dad never forgets my birthday, and how, no matter how important his job was, he'd always make it.
After dinner, I sat down on the couch and turned the TV on and changed the channel to ESPN to watch the NBA live. It was the Timberwolves and the Lakers in close combat, the Lakers were leading by 2 points and there was only 5.4 seconds left in the game. Olivia came by and sat beside me.
“Hmm it’s just bad day for the Timberwolves, they lost by only two points. I guess they can’t make it up in 5 seconds and maybe the Lakers are the ones to have the ball...”
“Well, the game is not over yet; never count the chickens before they're hatched; never make any conclusion before the game is over because there’s always a chance to win if you don’t give up.”
“It’s Fisher with the ball now, and there’s only 5 seconds left in the game. Ricky Rubio got a hand on the ball and stealing it from Fisher and he’s racing to the other side of the basket and throws a 3 pointer… and he… he made it!!!! Wow what a shot made by Ricky Rubio the rookie from El Masnou, Spain!” the reporter said in an excitement voice.”
“Like I said, do not make any conclusion before the game because there will always be a chance,” I said.
“Hmm interesting…”
“It’s not like this always happen in NBA,” I said.
“No, I do not mean the last shot of the game I meant what you said. You just told me to never make any conclusion before the game is over because there will always be a chance but was that said by you? Or was it said by your dad and you just used his words?”
I kept silent for a while and gave her a smile and went upstairs to sleep.
The next day I when I was packing Olivia was nagging me like I was a 14 year old kid telling me that I was to keep all the dirty clothes in a package and to not mixed them with the clean clothes and don’t sleep too late, remember my hotel key when I left, remember to pack all my stuff before I leave the hotel and make sure I have my passport with me. I drove to the airport but as I reached the airport I sat in the car thinking to myself about the great memories me and my dad had together, trolling around with each, and having so much fun. Then I remembered that whenever I needed him had always be there. I decided to decline the negotiation with the new partner and went back home and picked up Olivia and went to dad’s house. I knocked on the door.
“Hold on I’m coming,”
My mom opened the door and said, “Ted?! I thought you weren't coming. You told me that…”
“Yeah but I missed the flight,” I interrupted.
I went into his room and greeted, “Hey dad happy birthday haven’t see you for a long time you big ogre.”
“Hey small goblin I thought you went to Shanghai for some business planning.” He said.
“I wanted to but I thought if I did you would be crying like a kid just like I did when mom lied to me telling me that you wouldn’t come to my birthday party when I was ten.”
“Hahahahaha!!!! Yes, yes I probably would. Ted… you didn’t really need to do this you are already an adult you have your own life and needed to go to Shanghai. I had just sent you five million yesterday to your account to help you with the budget your mom had told me about.”
I looked at him for a while and laughed too as I understood why he was laughing so hard.
“Well, dad I chose to do this because I want to share every happy moment with you like you did with me when I was young.”
Even though father and son gave each other unneeded gifts, they both did it because they loved each other and understood each other, that is why we give presents in the first place.

Cave Vs. Furniture

From the book Metamorphosis written by Franz Kafka. From the story it was about the man Gregor woke up one day and figured out that he had turned to a bug or some people would say a beetle. However the story was more than what it look like; some of them think that it was actually Kafka's autobiography as he was anti-social. One of the scene in the book told us that the sister wanted to remove the furniture from her brother, Gregor's room so that he would be able to have more room to crawl on, but apparently Gregor's mom thought that leaving the furniture would be better for him as her point of view of thinking was that she would be more human-like. So from the two people's point we could see that both of them wanted the best for their family members as one would want to make him for comfortable and the other wanted to still consider as a human. In my opinion I think both of them had done there part job showing their love for to Gregor but sometimes people just have different kind of mind set of thinking and looking at things. If it was me, I would be on the sister's side as I think giving him spaces to move and to live would be better as we just need to understand and remember that he's not a monster but a human and a member in the family.

Three things I had learn

During class today we started to have our “Gift of Magi" short story been graded one by one from Mr.Webb. We went through two of them and it was great as we saw a lot of improvement in our essay and there were three or more things I had learned during class...
The first thing I learned in class was that anytime in a essay or story there's a number, if it is not really complicated such as 323 just type it out in English and when it is something that is really complicated or a certain year, you can use the normal number to type it out to show the readers.
The second thing I had learned from today was about the punctuation from the dialogue. From the websites I had got my researched from, it said that no matter what the condition is the first word from the dialogue, will always need to be capitalized.  The examples that the website gave were:
1."If we have to, we'll do it.  But I don't like it," Jonah said.
2.Jonah said, "If we have to, we'll do it.  But I don't like it."
3."If we have to, we'll do it," Jonah said.
4."But I don't like it.""If we have to," Jonah said, "we'll do it.  But I don't like it."
http://fanfiction.shurtugal.com/smf/index.php?topic=42.0
From this website I had learn that every time when there's a dialogue in the story, you will have to capitalize the first word inside the quotation no matter if whether there's a period, comma in front of the dialogue.
The third things I had learned from the class was also a concept in punctuation such as after you finish a sentence, there will always be a period and when you are typing on the computer, after the period should only have one space between the first letter in the next sentence and the period. In addition, we should use the Oxford comma to list the items we need as it has the almost the same function like (:).
